RDS
Junge produces exclusive down jackets with down of the highest quality, certified according to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This certification means, among other things, that live plucking and force-feeding are prohibited. To ensure that suppliers can meet this standard, the entire chain from farm to finished product is regularly inspected, and the down is therefore 100% traceable.
Down has exceptional insulating properties and is therefore ideal for jackets. Feathers are mixed in, as they hold the down together and ensure good moisture transport. The amount of down versus feathers helps determine the thermal insulation properties. The more down in relation to feathers, the warmer the jacket. Down jackets from Junge consist of 90% down and 10% feathers. Summer down jackets are made with 2 layers of down, and winter down jackets are made with 4 layers of down, with the down sewn into down pockets.
An RDS certification means that:
- Down and feathers originate exclusively from birds bred for the food industry.
- The product does not contain down and feathers from live-plucked birds.
- The product does not contain down and feathers from force-fed birds.
- Down production is monitored from farm to finished product.
- Suppliers are monitored by an independent third party.
What is the Responsible Down Standard?
RDS is a certification for responsible down production that places great emphasis on monitoring the entire process from farm to finished product. The company Textile Exchange, an independent, global and non-profit organisation, is behind the certification. The organisation works to minimise or completely reverse the textile industry's negative impact on the environment.
